Navigating the Future

The 52nd Annual CCBA convention was held April 20 - 23 at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe Resort in Incline Village, Nevada.

The convention opened on Friday with a presentation with wine and cheese pairings from Max McCalman, World Renowned Cheese Expert. That evening, guests enjoyed a pirate themed dinner and games.

Saturday’s business session continued with Jim Seiple, Vice President, Own Brands, Albertson’s who presented New Product Development for the Non Product Developer. Dr. Cynthia Daley, Organic Dairy Education & Research Program, CSU, Chico, spoke on Organic Dairy Challenges. Josh Zodikoff, Customer Solutions Merchant, Service Deli, Save Mart Supermarkets presented on Evolution of Specialty Cheese at Save Mart. The (Nearly) Impossible Dream: Comprehensive Tax Reform in 2017 was presented by Dr. Start Dorsey, President, Texas Lutheran University.

2015 CCBA 50th Anniversary Convention – Fabulous 50’s

        

The CCBA 50th Anniversary Convention, Fabulous 50’s was held April 16 – 19, 2015 at the Hyatt Regency Resort in Incline Village, Nevada.

2014 - Reach for the Stars

2014 CCBA Reach for the Stars Convention       

The 49th Annual CCBA Convention was held March 27 - 29 at the Omni La Costa Resort and Spa in Carlsbad, California.

The weekend opened with Thursday’s golf tournament on the Legends Course at La Costa and continued with a welcome reception at Diversions Thursday evening.

Barry Zuroff

Barry has been with Horizon Sales Corporation for 17 years. He has over 44 years of experience in the Southern California grocery industry with the past 30 years focused in the deli/service deli, meat and seafood arena
He is past President of the California Cheese & Butter Association. Barry is also an active member and served on the board of the Southern California Deli Council. They awarded him the Big Cheese in July 1989.

Barry has been married to his wife Debbie for 37 years. They have 5 daughters, 5 son-in-laws, 2 grandsons, 1 granddaughter and one grandchild on the way.

The 48th Annual CCBA Convention was held April 18 - 20 at the Lodge at Sonoma Renaissance Resort & Spa in Sonoma, California.

The weekend began with Thursday’s golf tournament at Eagle Vines Golf Club and dinner at the famed Swiss Hotel in Sonoma.

Our CCBA 2013 Hall of Fame honoree, Bud Tuohy is a senior level executive with over 40 years of sales and marketing experience in the consumer products industry.  After college, Bud began his career with the Colgate Palmolive Company Household Products in Northern California.  He was promoted to Area Manager in Cincinnati, Ohio and managed the largest volume unit in the Midwest District.  In 1977, Bud joined the food brokerage community in Northern California.  He worked for several major brokers in key management positions in the recruitment of clients and servicing major customers in the market.  In 1983, Bud joined Challenge Dairy Products, Inc. as Corporate Retail Sales Manager and was promoted to Vice President of Retail Sales in 1997.  Recognized as one of the ‘founders’ of the retail division, he is responsible for beginning the eastward expansion of the division and increasing the visibility of Challenge Dairy Products, Inc. with key customers in the market place.


In 1970 Ray and June Gaddis established Pacific Cheese Company, the West Coast’s first broadline cheese supplier. As industry pioneers, they were instrumental in the expansion of the California cheese industry and laid the groundwork for the company’s growth into one of the country’s leading suppliers of premier-quality, natural cheeses.


Today, a second generation of the Gaddis family oversees the company’s success and industry leadership.

2012 - Hidden Treasures

The 47th Annual CCBA Convention was held May 3 - 5, 2012 at the UCLA Lake Arrowhead Conference Center & Mountain Resort in Lake Arrowhead, California.

The weekend began with Thursday’s golf tournament at Empire Lakes Golf Course in Rancho Cucamonga.

Following Friday morning registration and the welcome luncheon, the business meeting opened with the following speakers: Bob Reeves-Shelby Publishing, Dr. Bruce Golden-Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Brian Good-UCLA Chef, and Cindy Chernow-Chernow Consulting.  Friday evening’s “Pirate’s Party” was enjoyed by all.  Attendees wore pirate costumes, enjoyed several games of bingo and cornhole, and participated in the costume contest.

Saturday’s speakers included: John Fiscalini-Fiscalini Cheese Company, Jennifer Mullen-Modesto Convention & Visitor’s Bureau, Judy Norton-Norseland Inc., Mac Moore-Cacique USA, Jerry Simms-Challenge Dairy Products Inc., KC Cole-Sprouts Farmers Market, Lidija Davidson-Marketing Strategist, and Scott Durham-DSM Dairy Solutions.

Pete Friedman and Michael Tsoules then announced the location of the 48th Annual CCBA Convention being held April 18 - 20, 2013 at The Lodge at Sonoma Renaissance Resort & Spa in Sonoma, California.   A hosted luncheon followed the business session, and guests were adjourned for a free afternoon.

Saturday evening’s dinner included a live and silent auction and awards.

2011 - Race for Excellence

 

Thank you to all who were able to join us for the 46th Annual CCBA Convention April 7 - 9, 2011 at the Claremont Hotel Club & Spa in Berkeley, California.

The weekend began with Thursday's golf tournament at the beautiful Blackhawk Country Club.  Guests were free to have dinner on their own that evening.

Following Friday morning registration and the welcome luncheon, the business meeting opened with the following speakers: Paul Wenger, California Farm Bureau Federation, Karen Christensen, Whole Foods, Scott Berger, Tony's Fine Foods, Stephanie Gallo, E. & J. Gallo Winery, Josh Thomsen, Claremont Hotel Club & Spa, Jeff Manning, Got Manning Consulting, Ed Zimmerman, Pizza.com, and Karen Cole, Category Manager/Buyer - Deli, Sprouts Farmers Market.  Friday evening's "Night at the Horse Races" was enjoyed by all.  Attendees bet on the horses in several races, enjoyed games and participated in the hat contest.

Darcie Gorman then announced the location of the 2012 CCBA Convention - UCLA Conference Center & Mountain Resort in Lake Arrowhead, California.   A hosted luncheon followed the business session, and guests were adjourned for a tour of the Pasta Shop with Juliana Uruburu.

Saturday evening's gala dinner included a live and silent auction, awards and dancing.  David Viviani was honored as the 2011 CCBA Hall of Fame and Lifetime Achievement inductee.  Scott Berger accepted the Company of the Year award on behalf of Tony's Fine Foods.  Mike Levy, Levy and Company, sang a few songs for the attendees.

2011 CCBA Hall of Fame/Lifetime Achievement Recipient

David has been involved with the California Cheese & Butter Association for over 30 years. He served on the Board of Directors for the past 15 years, and was the Association President from 2007 - 2010.  Mr. Viviani is the first recipient of the CCBA Hall of Fame and Lifetime Achievement Award for 2011.

Mr. Viviani was president and co-owner of Sonoma Cheese Factory for over 40 years.   Sonoma Cheese Factory, home of "Sonoma Jack", was established by his grandfather in 1931.  Mr. Viviani is a well known and highly regarded food professional who has vast experience marketing California specialty products locally and nationally.  He is extremely dedicated to his endeavors in the dairy industry.

In addition to his experience in local food production, marketing and distribution, Mr. Viviani has been involved with several other professional and civic organizations. In most organizations in which he has participated, he has risen to a position of leadership. He is past president or chairman of the U.S. Cheese Maker's Association, Dairy Council of California, California Creamery Operators Association, Sonoma County Harvest Fair, Sonoma Valley Visitors Bureau, Sonoma Valley Chamber of Commerce, and the Sonoma County Economic Development Board.
